The Pit River is located in northeast California and is divided into several sections by the large hydroelectric facilities on the river. Due to the tailwater properties of these sections, fertile water supports a rich and diverse insect population, check Sport Fishing Regulations. In narrow areas of the canyon with 4-6 percent gradient over most of the reach, minimum flows of 150 CFS are typical due to fluctuations of the hydroelectric operation. The lower part of the reach is a narrow lake impoundment for Powerhouse No. 3. Use caution; slippery rocks, steep banks, and huge boulders in streambed.
