The lower Feather River downstream from Lake Oroville is easily accessed near the town of Oroville. Downstream, access is provided through DFG Oroville Wildlife Area west of Oroville and south of Hwy 162, adjacent to the Feather River. The Widllife area includes 11,870 acres of riparian forest bordered by 12 miles of river channels and many fishable ponds. Further downstream the river is bordered by private property and is accessible only by boat. The lower Feather River hosts a springtime American Shad run, a spring spawning migration of Striped Bass; and annual runs of Chinook Salmon and Steelhead in the fall and winter, check Sport Fishing Regulations for bag, gear, and size restrictions. The lower reaches of the river also support a good Smallmouth Bass population. Fish rocky rip rap banks near submerged wooden structure. Boat ramps include the Yuba City boat ramp off the Garden Highway, Star Bend launch ramp on Feather River Blvd East, and the Riverfront Park ramp in Yuba City.
