Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration (NRDA)

OSPR's Resource Assessment Program (RAP) conducts Natural Resource Damage Assessments (NRDA) of pollution events that result in significant injuries to wildlife and/or habitat. The goal of OSPR’s NRDA program is to examine the natural resource injuries from oil spills, toxic waste sites, and other pollution events, to quantify the damages, to seek compensation from the responsible parties, and to both restore the injured resources and compensate the public for the lost interim ecological benefits and uses of these resources. This website describes the program and provides information about some of the larger cases. map of california showing locations of larger NRDA cases
