Incident Description

M/V Cosco Busan Incident

Date: 11/9/2007                       Time: 11:00 a.m.

The out-bound container ship M/V Cosco Busan struck the San Francisco Bay Bridge at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 7. Sector 11 United States Coast Guard has responded to the incident along with the Dept. of Fish Game – Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR), the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES), National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Parks Service, the National Marine Sanctuaries and other State and local agencies.   

OSPR responders in the field have ramped up their efforts by deploying ten teams of trained personnel to rescue oiled wildlife and assess shoreline clean up and damage to the environment. At this time, 71 oiled birds have been collected alive and transported to the San Francisco Oiled Wildlife & Education Center in Cordelia.
