DFG Seeks Bilingual Hunter Education Instructors

The Department of Fish and Game’s (DFG) Hunter Education Program seeks bilingual instructors to help meet a growing demand for classes delivered in languages in addition to English.

“Our instructors provide an extremely important service and pass on the tradition of hunting to Californians of every age and background,” said Capt. Roy Griffith, DFG Law Enforcement Division. “Since starting the bilingual instructor program in 2006, a greater number of Californians have been able to participate in hunting and learn more about resource conservation.”

Hunter education volunteer instructors provide training to help new hunters receive the appropriate hunter safety training required by law. Completion of hunter education training in California or another state is a requirement for anyone obtaining a California hunting license. Proof of course completion must be provided.

Since the introduction of mandatory hunter safety training in 1970, the number of people injured in hunting related accidents in California has dropped from an average of 163 per year to 22 with fatalities decreasing from 31 to two per year on average.
