DFG Offers Special Game Bird Heritage Junior Pheasant Hunt at Shamrock Ranch, Mendocino County

Now is the time to apply for the special junior pheasant hunt in Mendocino County. Permits for two special pheasant hunts for licensed junior hunters will be issued by drawing. To be eligible, youths must have successfully completed a hunter education course and possess a valid Resident Junior Hunting License. The junior pheasant hunt will be held at the Shamrock Ranch property, located 4 miles south of Laytonville along Highway 101. The hunts are scheduled as follows:

A.M. Hunt Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005 8 a.m. to Noon
P.M. Hunt Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005 *1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Junior hunters must apply in writing on a standard Postal Service size post card listing their:

Mailing Address
Telephone Number
2005-2006 Junior Hunting License Number
Name of Adult Chaperone
Desired Hunt (A.M. or P.M.)
Second Choice

Incomplete applications or applications not following these guidelines will be disqualified from the drawing.

If the first hunt choice has been filled, applicants will be assigned to their second choice (if another choice is indicated and it has not been filled). Two junior hunters may apply together if they want to hunt together. Be sure to complete all of the information for each hunter on the post card.

Submit written applications (postcard) to Bernie Geiger Junior Pheasant Hunt, Department of Fish and Game, P. O. Box 602, Willits, CA 95490. All applications must be received by Oct. 31, 2005, for a drawing on Nov. 1, 2005. A total of 20 permits will be drawn (10 each hunt), and all successful applicants will be notified by mail.

One adult, 18 years of age or older, who may not hunt but must have a hunting license is required to accompany and supervise every two junior hunters. Any vacancies after the drawing will be filled by first-come, first-served basis through receipt of applications. *A barbeque lunch will be provided beginning at noon for both the morning and afternoon sessions.
