Now is the time to apply for the special junior pheasant hunt in Mendocino County. Permits for two special pheasant hunts for licensed junior hunters will be issued by drawing. To be eligible, youths must have successfully completed a hunter education course and possess a valid Resident Junior Hunting License.

The junior pheasant hunt will be held at the Shamrock Ranch property, located four miles south of Laytonville along Highway 101. The hunts are scheduled as follows:

A.M. HUNT: Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, 8 a.m. to noon
P.M. HUNT: Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, 1 p.m. to 4:55 p.m. *

Junior hunters must apply in writing on a standard Postal Service size postcard listing:
Name
Mailing Address
Telephone Number
2004-2005 Junior Hunting License Number
Name of Adult Chaperone
Desired Hunt (a.m. or p.m.)
Second Choice

If the first hunt choice has been filled, applicants will be assigned to their second choice (if a second choice is indicated and it has not been filled). Two junior hunters may apply together if they want to hunt together. Be sure to complete all of the information for each hunter on the post card.

Submit written applications (postcard) to:
Bernie Geiger, Junior Pheasant Hunt
Department of Fish and Game
P.O. Box 602
Willits, CA 95490

All applications must be received by Nov. 1, 2004, for a drawing on Nov. 2, 2004. A total of 20 permits will be drawn (10 for each hunt), and all successful applicants will be notified by mail.

One adult, 18 years of age or older who may not hunt but must have a hunting license, is required to accompany and supervise every two junior hunters. Any vacancies after the drawing will be filled on first-come, first-served basis through receipt of applications. Questions concerning this special youth pheasant hunt should be directed to DFG’s Scott Koller, (707) 456-0329 or the Wildlife Help Desk at (707) 944-5531.

*A barbeque lunch will be provided beginning at noon for both the morning and afternoon sessions.
