The California Department of Fish and Game's (DFG) Outdoor California magazine reminds photographers around the state that the deadline for the Annual Photography Award Program is fast approaching. Photographs for the 2004 photo contest must be delivered to the Office of Communications, Department of Fish and Game, 1416 9th Street, Room 117, Sacramento, CA 95814 by noon on Dec. 31.
For those out of the area, Outdoor California will accept photo contest entries postmarked Dec. 30. Any entry postmarked after that date will not be accepted.
Participants should keep in mind the following when submitting an entry:
- Only photographs of live fish, wildlife and plant species in their native habitat will be considered. All photographs must be of native California species.
- Photographers should avoid artificial structures (fences, utility poles, etc.) and people in their submissions.
- All submissions must be 35 mm slide (duplicate).
The entries are judged by a panel of outside photographers and biologists. In addition to Photograph of the Year, awards will also be given for excellence and honorable mention. Award-winning entries from the nine categories (birds, mammals, fish, aquatic invertebrates, terrestrial invertebrates, plants, natural environment, wildlife in action, and open) are featured in the March-April issue of the magazine. The open category is for digitally enhanced or manipulated images, and those not fitting the other categories. For an official entry form, photographers should call DFG at (916) 653-6420, write the Office of Communications at the above address, or visit the Newsroom website at www.dfg.ca.gov/news.
