Meetings: South Coast Regional Stakeholder Group

South Coast Meeting Formats

Public Meetings: The majority of MLPA South Coast Regional Stakeholder Group (SCRSG) meetings will be formal, public meetings (also known as "plenary" meetings). Public meetings include all members of the SCRSG and contain updates on the MLPA Initiative process, scientific and informational presentations and SCRSG discussions and decisions. SCRSG members will present their suggested MPA arrays and proposals at public meetings. Audio and video archives of the meetings will be available on the MLPA website a few days after each meeting. All public meetings of the SCRSG include a formal public comment period.

Work Sessions: Some SCRSG meetings will be informal work sessions. Work sessions provide SCRSG members with focused, face-to-face opportunities to pursue their charge of developing alternative MPA proposals. SCRSG work sessions are not formal public meetings and are not video taped or webcast. All work sessions are open to members of the public, who may attend as observers; while there is not formal public comment, there are informal opportunities for the public to share their perspectives with SCRSG members and MLPA Initiative staff. To help create a "safe space" for SCRSG members to explore possible MPA ideas, the public will not be permitted to videotape, take pictures or audio record the work sessions.
