Regulatory Process Documents
On December 15, 2010 the California Fish and Game Commission voted to adopt its preferred alternative proposal of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) known as the Integrated Preferred Alternative (IPA), for the MLPA south coast region. The Commission adopted IPA establishes 37 new or modified MPAs and incorporates 13 existing MPAs at the northern Channel Islands. This network of 50 MPAs encompasses approximately 355 square miles (15%) of state waters in the region.
Regulatory documents describing south coast MPA proposals and their rationale are also available through the Fish and Game Commission web page.
