Summary of Regulation Changes

September, 2008 Recreational Groundfish Fishing Regulations Changes

Effective September 2, recreational groundfish fishing for rockfish, lingcod, greenlings, cabezon and other groundfish in the Northern Management Area (Oregon border to 40°10' North latitude (near Cape Mendocino, Humboldt County)) and the North-Central Management Area north of Point Arena (40°10' North latitude (near Cape Mendocino, Humboldt County), to 38°57.5' North latitude, near Point Arena in Mendocino County ) is closed to boat-based anglers. Divers and shore-based anglers are not affected by these area closures. The action is needed to conform to federal regulations for overfished species that require adherance to harvest guidelines for yelloweye rockfish.

Commercial Greenling Fishery Closes August 18

The commercial fishery for greenlings (genus Hexagrammos) will close Monday, Aug. 18, 2008 at 12:01 a.m. This action was taken because the annual commercial allocation of 3,400 pounds of greenling (kelp and rock greenling combined) is expected to be taken by that time for the 2008 calendar year.

May, 2008 Recreational Groundfish Fishing Regulations Changes

Effective May 9, recreational groundfish fishing regulation changes prohibit fishing in waters greater than 20 fathoms (120 feet) in depth in both state and federal waters in Northern California for rockfish, lingcod, greenlings, cabezon and other groundfish.

The season, area, and depth restrictions (listed by management area) for boat-based anglers are as follows:

Northern Management Area - Oregon border to 40°10' North latitude (near Cape Mendocino, Humboldt County)

Rockfish, cabezon, greenlings (RCG Complex) other federal groundfish (other than lingcod): Open to boat-based anglers from May 1 through Dec. 31 in waters from 0 to 20 fathoms (0 to 120 feet).

Lingcod: Open to boat-based anglers from May 1 through Nov. 30 in waters from 0 to 20 fathoms (0 to 120 feet).

North-Central Management Area - 40°10' North latitude (near Cape Mendocino, Humboldt County), to 37° 11' North latitude (near Pigeon Pt, San Mateo County)

Rockfish, cabezon, greenlings (RCG Complex), and other federal groundfish (other than lingcod): Open to boat-based anglers from June 1 through Nov. 30 in waters from 0 to 20 fathoms (0 to 120 feet).

Lingcod: Open to boat-based anglers from June 1 through Nov. 30 in waters from 0 to 20 fathoms (0 to 120 feet).
