Fishery-Independent Research

The Marine Region's team of fishery-independent researchers gather information independent of fishery landings data to gain a more complete picture of the changing status of fish and invertebrate stocks. Their goal is to provide the fishery-independent information needed to improve our management of nearshore resources. Through developing sampling protocols for scuba and remotely operated vehicle (ROV) surveys and using a variety of tools to collect needed data, the team works to provide improved information concerning the density and size of fish, plant, and invertebrate populations.
