Lake Sonoma Wildlife Area - Napa County

Location and Access: Located in Sonoma County. The terrain is oak woodland surrounding Lake Sonoma. The Lake Sonoma Wildlife Area (8,000 acres) is operated in cooperation with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE). Lake Sonoma Wildlife Area has two hunting areas, Yorty Creek and Liberty Glen. Both are special draw hunt areas. The Yorty Creek area is accessed from Highway 101. Exit at South Cloverdale Blvd. Take a right on Cloverdale Blvd., then either a left at Treadway and go 0.3 miles, turn right for 0.3 miles to Hot Springs Road or turn left at first signal (West Brookside) to Foothill, left on Foothill to Hot Springs Road. The Liberty Glen area is accessed via Highway 101 from Healdsburg exit (Dry Creek Road), take a right to Lake Sonoma, go past the visitor center, cross the Lake Sonoma bridge, then go 3 miles to the Liberty Glen campground. Liberty Glen check station is located at the parking lot near the kiosk.
General Information and Hunting Regulations: All hunting by permit issued by special drawing only. Deer hunts are applied for through the License and Revenue Branch. A premium deer tag is required for the Archery A25 Hunt and Junior J1 Hunt. Pig hunts are now offered by the Corps of Engineers for archery and crossbow hunts. Turkey hunts are applied for through special drawing at the Central Coast regional office. Possession in the field and use of firearms and archery equipment is permitted only for the purpose of hunting on Lake Sonoma Wildlife Area per hunt drawings. Target shooting is not allowed. This is a Type C area, permits are required for hunting. All wildlife area users are responsible for area-specific regulations listed under subsection 551(q) of "Hunting and Other Public Uses on State and Federal Areas". It is unlawful to collect or remove bottles or artifacts, or dig or otherwise disturb the soil to locate bottles or artifacts from any Wildlife Area. The area is open to public access all year.
Special Restrictions: No person, except by special authorization of the Department of Fish and Game, shall enter that portion of the Lake Sonoma Wildlife Area marked by signs as "Critical Habitat" during the period of February 1 through August 1. Dogs are not allowed.
Camping: Camping and trailers are allowed in Army Corps of Engineers designated campgrounds only. Trailers are not allowed on Hot Spring Road (Yorty Creek). No campfires are permitted within the Lake Sonoma Wildlife Area unless otherwise posted.
Parking Regulations: No person shall drive, operate, leave, place, park or stop any motor vehicle or trailer on any State Wildlife Area except on designated parking areas. Violators may be towed at owners expense. CVC 22659
