Knoxville Wildlife Area - Napa & Yolo Counties

Location and Access: Located in Napa and Yolo counties along Berryessa-Knoxville Road. The terrain is rugged, with elevations ranging from 1,000 feet to 2,200 feet. The Knoxville area (8,104 acres) is accessed from the north in Napa County via Highway 29 to Lower Lake to Morgan Valley Road past the old Homestake Mine site where it becomes the Berryessa-Knoxville Road in Napa County (approximately 17 miles). The Knoxville area is also accessed on the southern side via Highway 128 East (Napa County) through Rutherford to Berryessa-Knoxville Road (approximately 23 miles) or Highway 128 West through Winters (approximately 29 miles).
General Information and Hunting Regulations: Hunting is legal during designated seasons. Common game species include deer, wild turkey, quail, rabbit, gray squirrel, dove, pigeon, and bear. Possession in the field and use of firearms and archery equipment is permitted only for the purpose of hunting on Knoxville Wildlife Area. Target shooting is not allowed. This is a Type C area, no permits, passes, or reservations are required. It is unlawful to collect or remove bottles or artifacts, or dig or otherwise disturb the soil to locate bottles or artifacts from any Wildlife Area. All wildlife area users are responsible for area-specific regulations listed under subsection 551(q) of "Hunting and Other Public Uses on State and Federal Areas".
Camping: Primitive camping is permitted one-quarter of a mile beyond parking areas and from the Berryessa Knoxville Road. No facilities or drinking water are available. No vehicle camping or trailer camping is allowed at this time. No campfires are permitted within the Knoxville Wildlife Area between April 30 and October 30.
Off-Highway Vechicle (OHV) Regulations: Knoxville Wildlife Area is designated as "non mechanized access only". OHV use is not permitted within the Knoxville Wildlife Area:
- No person shall drive, operate, leave, place, park or stop any motor vehicle or trailer on any State Wildlife Area except on public roads and designated areas. Violators may be towed at owners expense. (California Vehicle Code 22659)
Knoxville Recreation Area is patrolled by Department of Fish and Game Wardens. In case of emergency please call 911. Contact Bureau of Land Management (707) 468-4000 at 2250 North State St., Ukiah 95482 for information on BLM lands in the area.
