Location: Shasta and Tehama Counties - approximately 16 miles north of Red Bluff and 1 mile west of Coleman Fish Hatchery.

Special Restrictions: Hunting and possession of firearms and archery equipment is prohibited. Fishing, dog training, horseback riding and bicycles are prohibited.

Access: From Interstate 5 east through Cottonwood, take Balls Ferry Road to Ash Creek Road to Gover Road to Coleman Fish Hatchery Road. Public entry is allowed from 6 am to 10 pm.

Description: 582 acres of riparian forests, marshes, and oak woodland support a diverse variety of migratory and resident bird species, as well as aquatic and terrestrial mammals.

Recreational Use

  • Hiking, birdwatching, and wildlife viewing are permitted here. Bald eagles and osprey nest here in spring. Other wildlife of viewing interest are California quail, wood ducks, beaver, river otter, bobcat, and coyote.
