Notice of Determination for the Final Hallelujah Junction Wildlife Area Land Management Plan in Sierra and Lassen Counties, California

Public Notice

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (Department), as Lead Agency, has approved the Final Land Management Plan for the Hallelujah Junction Wildlife Area in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and State CEQA Guidelines.

Project description and location:

The HJWA is located in Sierra and Lassen Counties and totals 13,394 acres.

The area has been acquired through a series of transactions by the Wildlife Conservation Board and California Department of Fish and Wildlife (Department). The HJWA is managed by the Department for its natural resources and for the public's use and enjoyment of those resources. In addition, the area facilitates the preservation of critical deer winter range and migration corridors from development.

The primary purpose of the LMP is to establish goals and guidelines for the operation, maintenance, and public use of the area. The Department will use the LMP to help guide the specific tasks for managing the habitats, species, cultural resources, facilities, public uses, and various other activities that occur in the area.

Public Review Period

The IS/ND was circulated for public review and comment for a period of 30 days starting November 23, 2009 and ending December 22, 2009.

The IS/ND described the project and its potential impacts on the environment, and concluded that the proposed project would not have any significant effects on the environment.
