Notice of Determination for the Final Antelope Valley and Smithneck Creek Wildlife Areas Land Management Plan (LMP) in Sierra County, California
Project Location: The Antelope Valley and Smithneck Creek Wildlife Areas (AVWA and SCWA) occupy approximately 5,700 acres and 1,400 acres, respectively, in the Sierra Valley watershed in Sierra County.
Description of the Project: The California Department of Fish and Game (Department), as Lead Agency, has approved the Final Land Management Plan for the Antelope Valley and Smithneck Creek Wildlife Areas in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and State CEQA Guidelines.
The LMP will guide the Department's management, planning, and operations of the AVWA and SCWA. The AVWA and SCWA support a diversity of montane vegetation types including eastside pine forest, big sagebrush scrub, woodlands, chaparral, riparian scrub, and meadows. These extensive natural areas provide valuable habitats for the Loyalton-Truckee mule deer herd and other wildlife and related recreational opportunities.
The IS/ND described the project and its potential impacts on the environment, and concluded that the proposed project would not have any significant effects on the environment.
Public Review Period: The draft LMP and IS/ND was circulated for public review for a period of 30 days beginning on August 8, 2008. Public comments and the Department's responses are located in "Appendix A" within the LMP.
Any questions may be directed to Paul Raquel, Senior Biologist Supervisor (Wildlife) at (916) 358-2868.
