Public Comment:
Larry Douglass commented that he sees no reason to get rid of the pike.
Fran Roudebush noted the need for the economic consultant to contact the local beauty shops.
Project Update: Ed Pert explained that the forest closure would take place on September 4th, that information stations were in place and will be updated daily throughout the project, arrangements had been completed to allow Committee members access to the project site for observation, a media plan was in place and a settlement with GLRID had been reached for $326,000. Mr. Pert discussed the need for employees working directly with the chemicals to wear protective gear, although there was no need for individuals who are not in direct contact with the chemicals to do the same.
Lot Analysis: Julie Cunningham reported on the analysis of the seven lots of CFT Legumine that had been completed. Additional quantities of fatty acids, glycols and trace amounts of hexanol and substituted benzenes were found. The risk assessment strongly suggests that ecological risks from these compounds are insignificant, and they do not appear to be at concentrations that would suggest any human health risks through water, air or ingestion exposure.
The committee discussed the location of air monitoring stations. Ms Roudebush explained that she felt there should be more stations than planned. Mr. Ozanavich explained how the locations had been selected.
Ms. Roudebush requested information be presented to residents on how to report and sickness or physical reaction during the project. It was explained that health care workers had been briefed on the project and would report any exposure symptoms to the proper authorities.
Dave Spath reported that the new chemicals found in the lot analysis would dissipate quickly and that a bigger problem would be the organic load on the lake due to decomposing fish.
When questioned about the disposal of the dead fish it was reported that they would be transported to the Lockwood landfill and that about 50% of the fish would sink to the bottom.
Jim Murphy reported that the City’s ADA Assessment would begin the next week.
The Economic Committee would be meeting on September 6, 2007 at 10:00 am in City Hall.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 2:05 p.m.
