Re: Draft Notes from the May 16, 2005 Lake Davis Steering Committee meeting held at Portola City Hall

Introductions: Individuals in attendance introduced themselves. The following guests were acknowledged; Steve Martarano, Ed Purt, Diana Jacobs and Lori Powers all representing DFG.
Procedures Manual: In response to the attendance at the meeting John Ball suggested the committee should hold a no action meeting if a quorum isn't present and requested the change be made to the procedures manual. It was then moved by John Ball, seconded by Jim Murphy to approve the procedures. There was no vote due to the lack of a quorum. The item would be placed on the next agenda for consideration.
Introductions: Ivan Paulsen introduced the following representatives from the Department of Fish & Game: Diana Jacobs, Deputy Director; Paul Stein, Chief Deputy Director; Ed Pert, Project Manager for Pike Eradication Project; and Steve Martarano, Public Information Officer. Paul Stein reported that Sandra Morey had been appointed as the Sacramento Valley & Central Sierra Region Regional Manager.
Project Director's Report
Ed Pert reported that hew would coordinating the efforts of Fish & Game staff and departments for the Pike Eradication project and would be in Portola on a regular basis. He explained that currently he was working to bring all the appropriate people in the department together to finalize the project and develop a timeline. Until that was complete he could not answer specific questions about the project. He also noted that the Fish & Game Commission did not have to approve the project but the Commission would need to approve any regulatory changes, such as a relaxed limit prior to the treatment.
Snow-pack/Runoff Project Update
Curtis Levine reported that the Lake was currently at 5767.65 elevation, 57,557 acre feet and 7.35 feet from spill - two feet higher than last year at this time. An addition 35,000 acre feet was projected from snowmelt and runoff.
Rotary Fishing Derby
Jim Murphy reported that plans were well underway for the Rotary Lake Davis Fishing Derby to be held on June 11, 2005. Special hats created by DFG would be given out to the first 30 people who turn in pike.
Spawning Signage
Bill Powers reported that funding had been obtained for the signage.
Grant 50 Proposals
Bill Powers reported on proposals for the re-use of Lake Davis and Sierra Valley Groundwater.
Pike Collection/Removal Update
Ivan Paulsen reported that 20 trap nets had been set on or about April 15 and that after three days they had 38 pike. He noted that the pike population was growing and there was a growing worry about transplanting of the fish. They had also completed the fish rescue in Snowcreek and moved 201 fish back to the lake.
Agency Reports:
DHS - Dr. Spath reported that the draft list form the competitive bid process had the Lake Davis Treatment Plant project listed outside the project funding levels.
DWR - Doug Rischbieter reported on the status of the County agreement with Grizzly Ranch for golf course water and explained that DWR had yet to be contacted about the agreement.
Plumas County - Bill Powers reported on the County's issues on the contract with Grizzly Ranch.
Other items and agenda items for June meeting
Bill Powers reported that he would get together a cash balance report for the next meeting.
Set next meeting date: The next meeting was scheduled for 1-3 pm on June 20 at City Hall.
