Paiute Cutthroat Trout : Angling Opportunities

In concert with the plan to restore Paiute cutthroat trout habitat are some proposed angling regulation changes to offset the loss of recreational opportunities. It will be necessary to close the stream reach to angling during the chemical treatment project and the restocking phase. The Department will be highlighting nearby waters that provide excellent opportunities for those seeking similar angling experiences. If the Paiute cutthroat trout population recovers and is ultimately sustainable and capable of withstanding fishing pressure, the Department will evaluate whether to propose Silver King Creek as a potential Fish and Game Commission designated Heritage Trout Water. A similar restored fishery for Lahontan cutthroat trout is open to catch-and-release fishing on the Upper Truckee River in Alpine County.
