Grants for the Fisheries Restoration Grant Program (FRGP) are selected and awarded through an annual open competitive selection process which has evolved over the past 30 years. The FRGP receives more proposals than it can fund through the Proposal Solicitation Notice (PSN) process. Workshops are held each year when the PSN is released to help applicants understand the PSN. Information on up coming workshops can be found at the link below.
Applicants have used watershed assessments and restoration plans to help target projects that address key limiting factors in the watersheds.
To assist in recovery of California Endangered Species Act (CESA) and Federal Endangered Species Act (FESA) listed anadromous salmonid populations and their habitat in California, applicants are encouraged to submit proposals that implement tasks from the following plans:
- Steelhead Restoration and Management Plan for California (PDF) (DFG 1996)
- Recovery Strategy for California Coho Salmon (DFG 2004).
- Southern California Steelhead Recovery Plan NOAA (NOAA 2012)
- Recovery Plan for Evolutionarily Significant Unit of Central California Coast Coho Salmon (NOAA Public Draft: March 2010)
- Recovery Plan for the Evolutionarily Significant Unit of Southern Oregon/Northern California Coast Coho Salmon (NOAA Public Draft: January 2011)
FRGP management activities are divided into five coastal watershed geographical areas (Figure 1) in which DFG grant managers oversee the implementation of funded restoration projects.
