San Antonio Valley Hunts

Deer Hunts

DFG, in cooperation with the California Deer Association (CDA), conducts an apprentice, no-fee, guided deer hunt at San Antonio Valley Ecological Reserve. The reserve is located in the San Antonio Valley, east of Mount Hamilton, and south of Livermore. The area is not open to the public except for scheduled tours and these special hunting opportunities.

The deer hunt period is in late September. Participants will be allowed to hunt over the entire two day hunt period.

Applicants must possess a junior hunting license. An adult chaperone 18 years or older must accompany each junior but may not hunt. Applicants are advised that this hunt is within the designated Condor Range and therefore ammunition must be certified “lead free”.

Participants must attend a mandatory orientation scheduled on the first day of the hunt as well as be in possession of a current valid California Hunting License and a deer hunting tag at the time of the hunts.

Important: Do not include non-hunters on your application.

Next scheduled Hunt: September 22-23
Application Deadline: August 30

DFG runs general pig hunts and collaborates with CDA on apprentice pig hunts at San Antonio Valley Ecological Reserve.

Pig hunts are not regular events but instead are scheduled in response to pig populations and volunteer availability. Interested parties should check back periodically for updated hunt information and schedules. Winter or Spring hunts may be subject to weather cancellations.

For apprentice hunts applicants must possess a junior hunting license. An adult chaperone 18 years or older must accompany each junior but may not hunt. Applicants are advised that this hunt is within the designated Condor Range and therefore ammunition must be certified “lead free”.

All participants must attend a mandatory orientation scheduled on the first day of the hunt as well as be in possession of a current valid California Hunting License and a pig hunting tag at the time of the hunts.

Important: Do not include non-hunters on your application.
