Providing climate leadership through personnel additions

DFG hired a climate advisor (Amber Pairis, Ph.D.) in February 2008 to act as its lead climate coordinator to guide its work to reduce the impacts on species. Dr. Pairis comes to DFG from the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies in Washington, D.C. where she coordinated research and policy between the state fish and game and federal natural resource agencies and served as the scientific lead on climate change and wildlife at the national level.

Dr. Pairis comes to DFG with more than 12 years of research experience on a variety of natural resource issues and has worked in both the non-governmental organization community and federal agencies. She will be focusing on coordinating DFG's activities related to climate change adaptation and mitigation including managing the internal Climate Change Task Force, working closely with stakeholders and technical specialist to develop and disseminate climate change information, participating as DFG's representative on the forest, land use, and water and energy climate action teams, and convening a working stakeholder group to determine the views and priorities of partners.
