DFG uses ESRI GIS software almost exclusively. Provided below are some helpful free GIS software packages, as well as other software-related items. Many other user-provided tools and utilities for ESRI GIS software programs are available at ESRI ArcScripts.

ArcGIS_Explorer

ArcGIS Explorer is a free, downloadable GIS viewer that gives you an easy way to explore, visualize, and share GIS information. With ArcGIS Explorer, you can

Quantum GIS

Quantum GIS (QGIS) is an Open Source GIS that runs on Linux, Unix, MacOSX, and Windows. It supports vector, raster, and database formats.

DNR Garmin

Windows application to download/upload data to a Garmin GPS and convert GPS data to ESRI shapefile format. This application replaces the older VB Garmin application.

Shareware windows application to download/upload data to a Garmin GPS.

California Teale Albers .prj files for ESRI GIS software

This download provides Coordinate System/Projection (.prj) files that implement the California Teale Albers projection (both NAD27 and NAD83 datums) within ESRI software. See the instructions with the download for further information.

XTools Extension for ArcGIS

This is a very full-featured extension for ArcGIS Desktop that includes many analysis, conversion, and table management tools. Around $200 per license.

ArcCatalog Object Filter from ArcScripts

This script adds a toolbar to ArcCatalog 9.x that allows you to filter objects (datasets, folders, sde layers, etc) in the contents view window. Very handy when working with SDE connections that list out tons of datasets and you want to quickly find one.
