James M. Harrington, Projects Leader/ Water
Quality Biologist
Jim is a Staff Environmental
Scientist for the California Department of Fish
and Game (DFG) based at the Water Pollution
Control Laboratory in Rancho Cordova. Jim received
his B.S. degree in Fisheries and M.S. degree
in Watershed Management from Humboldt State
University in Arcata, California. He has worked
for DFG since 1987 and for DFG's Water Pollution
Control Laboratory since 1991. His duties include
investigating biological effects of toxic spills,
designing water quality monitoring projects
for DFG and various government agencies and
supporting DFG's regional water quality biologists.
Jim established DFG's Aquatic Bioassessment
Laboratory in 1993 and since then has lead the
development of ecological assessment techniques
in California, participates on several U.S.
EPA workgroups to integrate biological assessment
into water quality regulation and co-authored
a soon to be released SETAC Pellston Workshop
publication entitled "Ecological Assessment
of our Aquatic Resources: Application, Implementation,
and Interpretation".

Angie L. Montalvo, Laboratory Director and
Enforcement Biologist, ES-II.
Angie received her B.S. in
Biological Sciences from the University of California,
Davis in 1994. She has worked with aquatic macroinvertebrates
for 13 years. Angie joined the California Department
of Fish and Game (CDFG) Aquatic Bioassessment
Laboratory (ABL) in August 1996 and has taken
part in various aspects of the ABL program including
field sampling and site surveying, subsampling,
taxonomic identification, laboratory methods
and development, project design, and the management
of projects and daily laboratory functions.
Angie is the lead enforcement person for the
ABL, which includes responding to pollution
cases, investigating spills and collecting BMI
samples from various locations throughout California.
She conducts bioassessment trainings for both
wardens and environmental staff within the department.
Angie also started CDFG's ABL facility located
on the Chico State campus in May 2000 and supervises
laboratory personnel and projects at both locations.

Amy N. Tsuji, Scientific Aid
Amy began work at the Aquatic Bioassessment
Lab, located at Chico State, in September 2000.
During the summer of 2001 she worked with the
Environmental Monitoring Assessment Program(EMAP).
In September 2001 she began working with Angie
Montalvo in Enforcement Monitoring in conjunction
with the Office of Spill Prevention and Response(OSPR).
She received her B.S. in Environmental Science
with a minor in both Chemistry and Biology from
CSU Chico in 2001.
