Reinitiation of Consultation (Milestones)
Fish and Wildlife Agencies Find CALFED Program is Making Progress Toward Conserving Species
The Ecosystem Restoration Program (ERP) and the Environmental Water Account (EWA) together form the foundation for the CALFED Bay-Delta Program's efforts to meet its environmental commitments. To make sure the CALFED Program made adequate progress, the CALFED Agencies agreed in 2000 to reinitiate consultation under the Endangered Species Act by September 30, 2004 - the mid-point in the CALFED Program's Stage 1. The Letter Requesting Reinitiation (PDF) outlines the background for the reinitiation process.
The agencies embarked on a lengthy and comprehensive evaluation of the ERP milestones and EWA that culminated in an assessment package submitted to the regulatory agencies on July 16, 2004. The ERP Implementing Agencies (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service and the CDFW) also provided a 30-day input period to the public regarding this assessment package; the supplemental information generated by this input period can be found in the Responses to Input (PDF) document.
After reviewing the information in the assessment package, the regulatory agencies presented their determination in their Letters Responding to Reinitiation.
